April 18 – 20, WonderGrass is coming to El Sargento/La Ventana in Baja California Sur! Maximize the experience with local food, drink, and good vibes!
La Ventana is a small coastal town on the east coast of Baja California Sur, about 45 minutes south of La Paz, the state’s capital and closest “big” city. La Ventana is the more popular reference point, however, there are actually two separate towns right next to one another: La Ventana and El Sargento. BajaWonderGrass is technically located in El Sargento, at La Tuna BCS, but whether you stay in La Ventana or El Sargento is totally up to you! They are both closely located to the festival site and will offer similar vibes, views, and experiences.
La Ventana is known for it’s wind (and therefore, kite surfing), and between November and March, the population grows significantly with avid kite surfers filling the sky with colorful kites. However, this coastal town was once known as a fishing destination, and we’ve found that there is far more to do here than simply kite surfing, or foiling, thanks to the incredible Sea of Cortez with it’s vibrant marine life. From hiking, mountain biking, walking through the Cardon Cacti forest, dipping in the natural hot springs, spear fishing, snorkeling, or simply relaxing on the beach, La Ventana and El Sargento BCS has a LOT going for it, even in the “off” season.
Explore below for what to expect from BajaWonderGrass, and how to enjoy the time after festival hours (we have a feeling you’re going to want to extend your trip 😉).
BajaWonderGrass will take place at La Tuna BCS, a restaurant/bar and gathering place located directly on the beach.
They also have an RV/Camping location located on the hill above the restaurant. Contact them to inquire about reservations!
Check out the vibe through their Instagram.
More InfoCheck out our favorite spots to hang out, grab a coffee or a bite, and take in the beautiful surroundings!
Km-0 – Located in the center of town, Km-0 is an Italian owned spot serving espresso drinks, smoothies, and baked goods, along with a full bar in the afternoons!
Polvora – Located on your way in or out of town, this is our favorite spot for brunch and good vibes. Their menu has a unique, and delicious middle eastern flair with excellent espresso drinks and welcoming service. Stay tuned for a pop up WonderGrass event here!
Silvestre Coffee & Bakery – A new coffee shop located off the main road, this is a must try for delicious baked goods, and tasty espresso and tea drinks!
La Tuna – “Good Vibes Only” is their motto and it couldn’t be more true! Stop here for happy hour, and watch the sunset from one of the fire pits located on their beach front patio.
Baja Bites – Unique twist on classic Baja seafood tacos, complete with homemade salsas, chipotle sauces, and chili oil.
Mariscos El Cone – Best seafood soup in town!
This is the largest Cacti forest in the world and is native to northwestern Mexico, including the Baja Peninsula. Walk through the “forest” of huge plants (some grow up to 60 feet tall, and weigh up to 25 tons), and read about their many medicinal properties along the way.
To find the forest, head south out of La Ventana on Corredor Isla Cerralvo. Map the Ventusbay hotel, which is tucked away inside the forested area. There is a network of sandy tracks around the forest, which can be used for hiking, mountain biking or driving.
Trail Forks is a great app to explore the many mountain biking and hiking trails throughout this section of Baja. Hike the Punta Gorda trail, or get lost on your own journey!
To reach the start of the hike, follow the dirt road that continues up the hill after Hot Springs Beach. Drive for 10 minutes past a few houses, eventually driving alongside the beach again, until you reach a small hut, and find an area to park on the left.
April is typically the end of the wind season, but you’re welcome to check out lessons and see what the options are!
We recommend Playa Central for gear rental, Elevation Kite Boarding School, or Baja Kite and Surf.
Visit Playa Agua Termales (Hot Springs Beach) for a unique opportunity to relax and unwind from the day’s activities. Be cautious, as the water is truly almost scalding! You can create your own natural spa bath with some digging and rearranging of rocks. The closer you go toward the ocean, the cooler it will be.
The beach is north of town, you can find it easily with Google Maps. Plan your trip during the mid-tide!
This is arguably our favorite experience in La Ventana, as the beautiful water, the abundance of fish, and the vibrant marine life creates a day of pure magic. Wake up early and board the boat with a local guide, perfect your fishing skills, eat lunch on the beautiful Island of Cerralvo, and soak in the incredible views! In the season, you’re likely to see whales, dolphins, manta rays, and more!

Having your own car is definitely the easiest way to get around Baja, especially if you decide to extend your trip and explore the region into La Paz and beyond.
Renting a car is not necessary, however, to enjoy your time at BajaWonderGrass. The beach is fairly walkable from restaurants and local convenient stores. We recommend renting an ATV or bicycle for easy access from your lodging to the site. Public transportation does not exist.
Check out 612 Adventure Tours, Ventana Windsports, or Playa Central for rentals.
